The AI Photo Prompt Formula, Explained Part by Part
Every strong prompt on Faymas is built the same way, even if the creators never say so out loud. Eight parts, in a rough order: subject, outfit, pose, location, lighting, camera, mood, quality. Learn what each part does and you can do two useful things: judge a copied prompt before you spend a generation on it, and write your own when the library does not have the look you want.
The eight parts
1. Subject. Who is in the photo, described just enough for the AI to place them: "the woman in my photo", "a young man", "a couple". When you use your own uploaded photo, keep this short. The photo carries your face; the subject line just tells the tool whose picture this is.
2. Outfit. The clothes, named properly: fabric, colour, and the details that matter. "A deep red silk saree with a thin gold border" gives the AI something to draw. "Nice traditional clothes" gives it a guessing game, and it guesses badly.
3. Pose. What the subject is doing and where they are looking. Standing, sitting on steps, walking, turning back over one shoulder, looking slightly away from the camera. Pose is the difference between a photo that feels alive and one that feels like a passport picture.
4. Location. Where it happens: temple steps, a rainy city street, a café window, a wheat field. Location quietly controls the background, the props and half the mood, so pick it on purpose instead of letting the tool choose a grey void.
5. Lighting. The most underrated part. Golden hour, soft window light, neon at night, overcast daylight. Light decides whether the same outfit looks cheap or cinematic. If a result looks flat, the lighting line is the first thing to change.
6. Camera. Words borrowed from photography: "shot on an 85mm lens", "shallow depth of field", "background softly blurred", "close-up portrait". These push the tool toward a real-camera look and away from a flat illustration.
7. Mood. The feeling in one or two words: calm, joyful, dramatic, nostalgic. Mood steers expression and colour grading. It is the seasoning, not the meal, so keep it short.
8. Quality. The tail almost every Faymas prompt ends with: "ultra detailed, photorealistic, natural skin texture, 8k". On its own this line does little. On top of seven good parts, it polishes.
A worked example, built piece by piece
Start with the weak version people type first:
"A girl in a saree."
The AI will produce something, and it will be bland: random colours, random place, mannequin face. Now build it with the formula:
- Subject + outfit: "the woman in my photo wearing a deep red silk saree with a thin gold border"
- Pose: "standing on stone steps, smiling gently, looking slightly away from the camera"
- Location: "on the steps of an old temple"
- Lighting: "at golden hour, warm sunlight falling from the left"
- Camera: "shot on an 85mm lens, background softly blurred"
- Mood + quality: "rich cinematic colour, natural skin texture, ultra detailed, photorealistic"
Joined together, that is a complete prompt:
"Create a portrait of the woman in my photo wearing a deep red silk saree with a thin gold border, standing on the stone steps of an old temple at golden hour. Warm sunlight falls from the left. She smiles gently and looks slightly away from the camera. Shot on an 85mm lens, background softly blurred, natural skin texture, rich cinematic colour, ultra detailed, photorealistic."
Same idea as the weak version. Completely different result.
Adjusting a copied prompt
You rarely need to write from zero. Take a prompt from the library and swap single parts: keep the camera and quality tail, change the outfit to what you own, move the location somewhere you like. Swapping one part at a time keeps the prompt balanced; ripping out three parts at once usually collapses it. Our Gemini walkthrough shows this fix-one-thing method in action, and the couple and saree guide applies the formula to the two hardest subjects: two people, and detailed traditional clothing.
Once the formula clicks, the library on faymas.in reads differently. You stop seeing magic text and start seeing recipes you can remix. Browse it with fresh eyes from our homepage guide.
